The 82nd annual educational conference of the CMA will provide a unique and much-needed focus on how to understand and develop just and sustainable solutions for the existential challenges in health care through the application of Catholic social teachings. Speakers will review the history and principles of Catholic social teachings, including the fundamental concepts of human dignity, solidarity, and subsidiarity, and how their application can help to address the present crisis in health care. Other topics to be addressed in light of Catholic social teaching will include the definition of “basic” health care, the impact of technology on healthcare delivery, the significance of religious freedom, and the necessity of a just allocation of limited healthcare resources. Both domestic and international issues will be examined.
